I suspected it would be a Bond-themed Christmas, but I didn’t know my brother would hit the grand slam gift of gift giving – The James Bond Archives.
Coming in at 15 pounds with just under 600 pages of material, The James Bond Archives is, without question, the definitive guide to all things Bond. From Dr. No to Skyfall and everywhere in-between, it has stellar behind the scenes content and commentary as well as some wonderful embellishments like the shooting schedule for From Russia with Love lining the inside jacket. The book’s awesomeness requires a new rating system; a mere 5 stars barely scratches the surface at how cool it is.
This is actually the second Bond-related gift from my older brother to knock my socks off. Nearly 20 years ago he gave me an original Italian promotional poster for Goldfinger. It has been framed in my living room ever since. We now have a few other (ahem) original posters gracing our home including Dr. No and an extraordinarily large From Russia with Love on the landing of our stairwell. The most common question during the nickel tour for new guests is ‘Who’s the Bond nut?’
Since that first poster I’ve received many Bond-related gifts over the years, but none with quite this gravity.
Thank you Chris. I’ll treasure this new gift just as I have the one you gave me decades ago.
